Monitoring statutory compliance: a discourse analysis of the goods and services tax in news reports in Malaysia

The implementation of the GST was a highly contentious issue. The former Malaysian government embarked on a nationwide campaign to promote the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and to educate and inform the people about the benefits of the GST through various channels, one of which was the setting up of GST Malaysia Info. To discover the various discourses used by the former Malaysian government and the mainstream media to convince the people into accepting the GST by conducting an interdiscursive analysis of selected news articles.
